Ice Mountains led by Carlos F Carrillo Jr. , 2007

"Ice Mountains" is a first collaborative installation by the CCYD Studio duo. At its core, the work comprises five lightbox sculptures strategically arranged around a central column, their configuration evoking the silhouette of a mountain range. The lightboxes themselves are a fusion of the artists' distinct visual languages. The surfaces are adorned with protruding sculptural elements that resemble the intricate formations of crystals, lending the pieces a sense of organic complexity. This interplay between the artificial medium of lightboxes and the natural motifs of crystalline structures creates a dialogue between the man-made and the natural world. The arrangement of the lightboxes is an exercise in spatial composition. As the eye travels upward along the column, the sculptures ascend in a gradual rhythm, mimicking the undulating contours of a mountainous landscape. This vertical progression not only lends a sense of dynamism to the installation but also invites the viewer to contemplate the interplay between light, form, and space.
