Press Release

Low-tech Organics is a group exhibition working with the idea of exploration of common materials and space. Although each artist has his or her own ways of working the combined similarity lays in the handling of materials.

Cardboard, plaster, plastics, windows, BX-cables, store bought goods, lighting, television and video are low-tech materials. But because they are just that, (low-tech) this allows artists to afford these consumables and transform them into his or her creations. Let us not forget the discarded objects and curbside items, they are the residue of our need to buy and throw away and buy more, this cycle to own and throw away has allowed for a whole new generation of artists to explore the possibilities of recycle and renew.

Presentation and the use of space are equally important. Each artist before creating his or her works, were allowed to visit 38-9 skylight gallery. This visit allowed the artist the opportunity to gather a sense of understanding of the characteristics the space. Which provided the artist to adjust his or her language to flow with the energies of the gallery.

Low-tech organics is a group effort to create new perspectives on what can be made with the characteristics of ready-made materials and space.

-Carlos F. Carrillo & Pauline Noyes
