Inspired by the Czech fairy tale Twelve Months, these ornaments celebrate the story's magical inversion of the seasons. In the tale, a young girl is sent into the forest during a blizzard to gather out-of-season flowers. There she encounters the personified Twelve Months gathered around a bonfire, who briefly suspend the natural order and allow spring flowers to bloom in the depths of winter. That image became the inspiration for painting wildflowers onto Christmas ornaments—bringing spring into the heart of the holiday season. I first encountered the story as a child, and it has remained one of the enduring images that shaped my imagination.
These hand-painted glass ornaments extend my ongoing exploration of glass as a sculptural, light-responsive material, translating ideas developed in my larger body of work into an intimate hanging form.
